THE IMPORTANCE OF A SPIRIT-FILLED LIFE

Intro: What fills your heart, your life? In Proverbs 4:23, we are reminded that what fills our heart becomes the issue of our life. In this lesson, we will learn and discover the key to a victorious and fruitful life; the Spirit-filled life.

1. BEING FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE NUMBER ONE QUALIFICATION OF A DISCIPLE.

In the Book of Acts, the need to assign workers to serve were brought to the disciples’ attention. It is quite remarkable that the most sought qualification suggested by the disciples is not any educational attainment or talent rather the fullness of the Spirit.

”Brothers, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them.” – Acts 6:3

And one of those chosen was Stephen.

This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit. - Acts 6:5

2. WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT?

a. He is a “gift” to believers. Acts 2:38
b. He is the believers “Helper”. – John 14:16,
c. He is a “teacher”. - John 14:26 (Ex. I was taught the meaning of Romans 8:1-3)
d. He is the Spirit of “Truth” – John 15:26
e. He is the “power” that convicts sinners. – John 16:7

3. HOW THE HOLY SPIRIT COMES?

- Make a decision to turn from your old life and turn to God. – Acts 2:38-39
- Ask! – Luke 11:10, 13

CONCLUSION:

NOW WHAT…?

a. Be continually led by the Holy Spirit. God’s desire is for us to become “sons” and not always children. – Romans 8:14

b. Always be filled by the Holy Spirit. Maturity is a result of winning the battle over the evil deeds of the flesh so it is a must that we “maintain the fullness in the Holy Spirit”. – Ephesians 5:15-18, Galatians 5:16-26

c. Do not grieve the Holy Spirit. – Ephesians 4:29-31
